Story of Sushila Karki:  Nepal is currently going through a period of severe unrest. The whole country has gone up in smoke. Sushila Karki has been elected as the head of the interim government of Nepal. She is the first woman Chief Justice of the country, who was removed by the rulers sitting in the government through impeachment, but now the same Karki is going to enter politics.

In 2016, she became the first woman Chief Justice of Nepal. Karki's tenure is full of historical achievements and political controversies.

Sushila elected as the head of the interim government of Nepal

Karki came into the limelight by giving many important decisions while being a judge in Nepal. Her decisions in Prithvi Bahadur Pandey vs Kathmandu District Court (corruption in printing of polymer bank notes in Australia), Kathmandu Nijgarh Fast Track case and surrogacy case were historic. Due to her working style, she always remained a thorn in the eyes of the communist regime.

Amid the ongoing unrest in Nepal, Sushila Karki, a former student of Kashi Hindu University and former Chief Justice of Nepal, has been proposed for the post of interim Prime Minister. The Gen-Z group has made this proposal which Karki has accepted. Sushila Karki received a postgraduate degree in political science from BHU in 1975. She has received the support of 2500 people in the virtual meeting.

 

Found a life partner during education in Varanasi

Kashi is deeply connected not only in Karki's educational but also family life. During her studies in Kashi, she met Durga Prasad Subedi, whom she later married. Karki is the eldest of seven children of her parents. She belongs to the Karki family of Biratnagar.

Sushila Karki's name was proposed by the Haami Nepali NGO, which was also supported by Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah. Impeachment was brought against Chief Justice Karki in the Parliament in 2017. She was accused of interfering in the functioning of the government, after which Karki was suspended.

Now Sushila Karki will lead the same Nepal

But Karki did not give up. She approached the Supreme Court against this. The court gave a historic verdict just a day before her retirement and the impeachment motion against Karki was withdrawn. Eight years after this incident, the tables have turned. At a time when she was removed on the charge of interfering in the work of the government. Now the same Karki is going to take the command of the government in her hands.

Story of Sushila Karki

Karki was born in 1955. After obtaining a law degree, she traveled a long way in the judicial service. She held the post of Chief Justice from 2015 to 2017. During this time she made significant contributions to the judicial history of Nepal, especially in gender equality and judicial reforms.

Frustrated communist government brought impeachment

It is particularly noteworthy that on 30 April 2017, an impeachment motion was presented in the Parliament against Karki by the Maoist Center and the Nepali Congress. However, the impeachment motion was later withdrawn after public pressure and the interim order of the Supreme Court.

Summary

30 people have died in the Gen-Z protest in Nepal while 1033 people have been injured. Earlier, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had resigned amid pressure from protesters. Gen-Z reportedly supported Karki on Wednesday.
