Summer to Intensify: Mercury to Rise Across North India from UP to Bihar; Heatwave Alert Issued
With temperatures rising across several Indian states, the summer heat has begun to show its intensity. Specifically, severe heatwave warnings have been issued for Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh
Heat Wave Alert: Summer has begun to make its presence felt across various parts of the country. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for severe heat and heatwaves for several states, including Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh. Over the next 4–5 days, maximum temperatures in Northwest, Central, and East India are likely to rise by 3 to 6°C.
While the IMD has issued a rainfall alert for the states of Northeast India on one hand, it has issued a heat alert for Northwest, Central, and East India on the other. In particular, Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh are expected to experience intense heat on Monday and Tuesday.
Heatwave Arrives in Madhya Pradesh
As the influence of the Western Disturbance subsides, temperatures have begun to climb. Madhya Pradesh has witnessed a sudden surge in temperatures; over the past three days, the mercury has jumped by approximately 5°C, reaching the 40°C mark.
The IMD has predicted that daytime temperatures in Madhya Pradesh could reach between 44°C and 45°C by the end of April.
Heatwave Havoc in Andhra Pradesh
The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) has issued a warning for severe heatwaves across several regions of the state for Monday, April 13. Severe heatwave conditions are expected in 51 *mandals* (administrative blocks), while moderate heatwave conditions may prevail in 49 *mandals*.
The situation is particularly severe in the northern coastal districts. On Monday, the impact of the heatwave is expected to be most intense in the districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Alluri, Polavaram, Anakapalli, and Eluru.
Weather in Delhi, UP, and Bihar
According to the Meteorological Department, the weather in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar will remain clear today—April 13. During this period, intermittent cloud movement may be observed in some areas. Due to intense sunshine, the maximum temperature is expected to range between 37°C and 39°C. However, there is currently no likelihood of a heatwave or extreme heat conditions.
Alert for Humidity and Heatwaves in These States Throughout the Week
According to the Meteorological Department, a heatwave is expected to sweep across Saurashtra and Kutch on April 13. Meanwhile, there is a possibility of humid heat and heatwaves in Odisha from April 14 to 16; in Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh from April 16 to 18; and in Marathwada on April 16.
Strong, hot winds may blow across Odisha, Gujarat, the Andhra coast, Rayalaseema, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry, and Karnataka on April 14.
