Team India is currently on tour to Australia. An ODI series is being played between the two teams. In the midst of this series, an Indian player has suddenly announced his retirement. This player made his international debut for India on June 15, 2014, becoming the first cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to play for India. However, he has now decided to retire from all forms of cricket.

Indian Player Retires

Parvez Rasool, the first cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to play ODIs for India, has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. The 36-year-old all-rounder informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) of his decision on October 18. Rasool played his first ODI against Bangladesh in Mirpur on June 15, 2014. In that match, he took two wickets for 60 runs in 10 overs. In his only T20 match, against England in Kanpur on January 26, 2017, he scored 5 runs and took the wicket of Eoin Morgan for 32 runs.

First cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to play for India

Rasool had a remarkable domestic career. He scored 5648 runs and took 352 wickets in 95 first-class matches. He also played 164 List A matches and 71 T20 matches. He also received the Lala Amarnath Trophy for Best All-Rounder in the Ranji Trophy twice (2013/14 and 2017/18). In the IPL, he played a total of 11 matches for Pune Warriors India, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

What Rasool said after retirement

After announcing his retirement, Rasool told Sportstar, "When we started playing, many people didn't take Jammu and Kashmir cricket seriously. We defeated some big teams and performed well in the Ranji Trophy and other BCCI-affiliated tournaments. I captained the team for a long time, and it gives me immense satisfaction to contribute a little to the team's success story."
