This year's Grammy nominations include a song featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi
A song featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi has received a Grammy nomination this year. The song highlights the government's efforts to promote nutrient-dense cereal and its health benefits.
'Abundance of Millets', a song released in June of this year, features singer Falu (Falguni Shah), an Indian-American Grammy winner, and her husband, also a singer, Gaurav Shah.
Falu told PTI that Prime Minister Modi, my husband Gaurav Shah, and I collaborated on a song.
She said that the idea to write a song about millets came to her when she visited Prime Minister Modi in Delhi the year after winning the Grammy. She also said that Prime Minister Modi gave her advice to write a song about ending hunger during their discussion about the power of music to inspire change and enhance humanity.
Falu had earlier told PTI that she had "naively" asked the PM to compose a song about millets.
The song honors this year's International Year of the Millets, which was proclaimed by the UN.
The proposal was presented by India and approved by the 75th Session of the UN General Assembly as well as members of the Governing Bodies of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
The Modi administration has been promoting millet as a wholesome cereal and emphasizing its ability to reduce poverty and improve health.
During his visit to the US, PM Modi included the cereal in his State Dinner menu.
