Three arrested in connection with gang rape of MBBS student in Bengal
Gang Rape Of MBBS Student In Bengal: In a major breakthrough, police have arrested three accused in the Durgapur MBBS student gang rape case, while two others remain at large. Sources stated that they tracked their mobile network and arrested these accused.
Sources stated that after receiving information about the incident, police conducted an overnight search operation in the forest surrounding the scene and arrested three accused by tracking their mobile network.
Two others remain at large, and the search for them is ongoing.
According to reports, the New Township Police Station of the Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate has registered a case of gang rape based on a complaint from the victim's family. Police stated that a search operation was conducted overnight in the forest near the scene.
By tracking mobile networks, three suspects have been arrested, believed to be connected to the case. Police have also detained and begun questioning some medical college employees and friends who accompanied the victim.
Interrogation of Friends Also Underway
According to sources, the friends whom the family has suspected are being thoroughly questioned. Police are examining CCTV footage and security arrangements on campus to establish the exact circumstances of the crime and identify the accused.
Police have formed a special investigation team and are conducting raids to search for the two absconding accused. According to police, the victim's statement has been recorded and samples have been sent for forensic examination.
MBBS student gang rape case
According to police, the 23-year-old MBBS student, a resident of Jaleswar, Odisha, left the college campus with a male friend at around 8:30 pm on Friday night. At that time, some men allegedly began following them and making obscene comments. They then forcibly dragged her to a secluded area, where she was gang-raped. Upon receiving information about the incident, a team from the New Township Police Station arrived at the scene and began an investigation.
The victim was immediately admitted to a hospital for medical examination and treatment, where she is currently under the close observation of doctors.
WBDF Demands Judicial Inquiry
The West Bengal Doctors' Front (WBDF) strongly condemned the incident, calling it another horrific reminder of the insecurity faced by women even within educational institutions. The organization demanded justice for the victim and appealed to the Chief Justice of India to take cognizance of the matter and order a judicial inquiry.

Odisha CM Criticizes the Incident
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Manjhi also expressed deep sorrow over the incident. He posted on Instagram, "I have instructed senior officials to contact the West Bengal government and take necessary steps. The victim's family will be provided all possible assistance from the Odisha government." He appealed to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to take strict action against the culprits.
BJP attacks TMC government
Meanwhile, the BJP launched a scathing political attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government, accusing it of consistently failing to maintain law and order in the state.
West Bengal Minister and TMC leader Shashi Panja retaliated, accusing the BJP of politicizing a sensitive issue.
