Before concluding India's presidency this month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will host a virtual summit of G20 leaders on Wednesday evening to discuss the implementation of the Delhi Declaration, Sherpa Amitabh Kant announced on Tuesday.

Global leaders are anticipated to attend the virtual meeting in a comparable number to those who attended the in-person event on September 9–10 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, Kant continued.

Kant stated at a press briefing that the G20's virtual summit, which took place following the physical summit, was "something very rare" and "rather exceptional" because no other presidency had organized a meeting of this kind to implement the leaders' recommendations for a fair and equitable world.

What is the goal of meeting?

The meeting's goal is to provide impetus for the implementation of the Delhi Declaration, which was unanimously decided upon by all members at the 18th G20 leaders' summit in New Delhi in September. According to Kant, the declaration "demonstrated the G20 Leaders' commitment to tackle global challenges in a very driven, inclusive, decisive, and action-oriented manner."

On the final day of the New Delhi summit on September 10, Modi announced that India would host a virtual summit. The meeting has been invited by G20 leaders, including the chair of the African Union, as well as 9 guest countries and the heads of 11 international organizations.

Previously, on November 6, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated that by engaging with G20 nations, momentum on the policy guidance of the New Delhi Declaration must be maintained.

Next G20 Presidency will be held by Brazil

The G20 Presidency is held by India until November 30. During Brazil's G20 presidency in 2024, the G20 troika will consist of India, Brazil, and South Africa.

On December 1, last year, India assumed the rotating G20 presidency for a year and will remain a member of the top troika for another.

When Brazil assumes the presidency next month, the new troika will be formed, with India serving as the previous president and South Africa taking over after Brazil.
