Tragic Accident Claims Lives of Migrants in Southern Mexico
In a devastating incident along the Pacific coast of Mexico, a cargo truck clandestinely carrying migrants overturned, resulting in the loss of at least 10 lives and leaving 25 others injured. The accident unfolded early Sunday in the southern state of Chiapas, near the border with Guatemala, marking the second fatal crash involving migrants in less than a week.
Authorities report that the victims, believed to be from Cuba, were all women, including one minor. This tragic incident occurred on a stretch of highway between the towns of Pijijiapan and Tonala, areas frequented by migrants as they embark on their journey to reach the United States.
The ill-fated truck, constructed partially with wood, was left completely destroyed, with the personal belongings of the migrants scattered around, including clothes, bags, and backpacks.
Just days prior, on Thursday, another accident occurred in the municipality of Mezcalapa, also within Chiapas state, where two migrants lost their lives when a truck overturned.
This heart-wrenching event shines a spotlight on the perilous journeys undertaken by thousands of migrants from various countries, as they traverse Mexico using various means of transportation, including buses, trailers, and freight trains, in their pursuit of reaching the United States.
