Train derailment in Bihar killed 4 and injured 40
In a tragic incident that occurred late on Wednesday night, the Delhi-Kamakhya Northeast Express faced a catastrophic derailment near the Raghunathpur station in Bihar’s Buxar district. The incident has resulted in the loss of at least four lives, with around 40 passengers sustaining injuries.
This train derailment has caused the diversion of other 92 trains and cancellation of 8 others.
The accident scene at Raghunathpur witnessed significant damage, with pillars, electrical poles, signal posts, and both tracks affected. As a result, trains operating on the New Delhi-Howrah main line experienced considerable delays, as they were temporarily halted at various locations.

According to officials, the derailment is attributed to either poor track maintenance or a malfunction in the track switching mechanism. It is noteworthy that the region has no history of unlawful activities, as confirmed by an official statement.
This devastating incident comes only months after India's worst rail disaster in two decades, which transpired due to faulty connections in the automated signaling system.
On June 2, in Odisha’s Bahanaga Bazar, a tragic incident unfolded, claiming the lives of 288 individuals and leaving over 1,000 injured. This catastrophic chain of events transpired when a passenger train collided with a stationary freight train before veering off the tracks and colliding with another passenger train traveling in the opposite direction.
Causalities identified
In the recent Bihar accident, authorities have identified three of the casualties as Usha Bhandari, aged 33, Akriti Bhandari, an 8-year-old child, and Abu Jayand, aged 27. The identity of the fourth victim has yet to be established. The majority of the injured passengers are currently receiving medical treatment at hospitals in Buxar, Ara, and Patna.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has pledged to uncover the "root cause of the derailment" and is expected to visit the accident site in the near future.

At the time of the incident, the Kamakhya-bound train was running one hour and 40 minutes behind schedule. The derailment occurred at approximately 9:35 pm shortly after the train's departure from the Buxar station. Relief and rescue teams reached the site around 1:30 am, successfully evacuating all stranded passengers and repositioning the derailed coaches on the tracks.

Birendra Kumar, Chief Public Relations Officer of East Central Railways, revealed that an expert committee has commenced investigations into the technical aspects of the derailment. Notably, three coaches sustained the most severe damage, with casualties reported from these coaches. The railways have also initiated compensation measures for the families of the deceased, as well as for the injured passengers.
