Tunnel Collapse: Official Ensures Step-by-Step Liberation After Delivery of Essential Items
Tunnel Collapse- On Wednesday, Neeraj Khairwal, Uttarakhand Secretary and Nodal Officer overseeing the Silkayara rescue operation, reported significant progress in reaching the 41 workers trapped in a 60-meter stretch on the Silkyara side of the tunnel, which collapsed on November 12.
Khairwal revealed that a microphone and speaker were successfully inserted into the tunnel, allowing audio communication with the trapped workers.
A team of doctors also spoke with the workers to assess their health, and necessary medicines have been delivered. Essential items, including food, clothes, and hygiene products, were sent through a 6-inch pipeline.
The official acknowledged that some workers experienced stomach upsets, but overall, the trapped individuals are reportedly positive and satisfied with the rescue operation's progress. Khairwal expressed hope that all workers would be freed individually.
Operation to rescue workers still on
The collapse occurred during the construction of a tunnel from Silkyara to Barkot. Five agencies, including ONGC, SJVN, RVNL, NHIDCL, and THDCL, are collectively working to evacuate the trapped laborers from the 2-km-built portion of the under-construction structure.
On Tuesday, an endoscopy camera was inserted into the tunnel, revealing visuals of the workers having sufficient space to move about. These visuals, emerging after 10 days of the workers being trapped, have instilled new hope among worried relatives, some of whom are stationed outside the collapsed tunnel site.
