UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak hosted a unique celebration of Diwali at 10 Downing Street
The images depicted diyas and bright lights illuminating Downing Street. A sizable crowd had joined in the festivities. The Hindu community in the United Kingdom has received heartfelt greetings from British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
He hosted a unique celebration of the widely observed Hindu festival of Diwali at 10 Downing Street.
Along with Rishi Sunak and other Hindu community members, his wife Akshata Murty celebrated Diwali at Downing Street.
"Tonight Prime Minister @RishiSunak welcomed guests from the Hindu community to Downing Street ahead of #Diwali - a celebration of the triumph of light over darkness," the UK Prime Minister's office wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
The post also mentioned Rishi Sunak wishing everyone in the UK and around the world a Happy Diwali.
Meanwhile, US Vice President Kamala Harris celebrated Diwali at her official residence, telling guests that it is important to celebrate this festival of light because the world is currently in a difficult and dark period as a result of the war between Israel and Hamas.

There is no doubt that we are living in a difficult and dark time in our world, as evidenced by what we see in the news coming out of Israel and Gaza. And I know it's terrible and heartbreaking for all of us, especially for me and Doug (her husband), she added.
