UP Budget Session 2026: The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh is presenting its tenth budget today. Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna will present the budget for the financial year 2026-27 in the Assembly at 11 am. This is the last full budget of the second term before the elections and its size is expected to exceed ₹9 lakh crore.
Big announcements in the Yogi government's budget
Today is a crucial day for Uttar Pradesh. The government under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is presenting its tenth consecutive budget. Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna will present the budget for 2026-27 in the Assembly at 11 am. It is believed that the budget size could exceed ₹9 lakh crore, making it the largest budget in the state's history. This is the last full budget of the Yogi government's second term before the assembly elections, so it is expected to focus heavily on employment, infrastructure, women's empowerment, farmers, and youth. The proposals were approved in the cabinet meeting before the budget. The Chief Minister will hold a press conference at 1 pm and SP President Akhilesh Yadav at 2 pm.
Funds for New Medical Colleges and Cancer Institutes
A provision of ₹1,023 crore has been proposed for the establishment and operation of 14 new medical colleges. A provision of ₹315 crore has been made for the Cancer Institute in Lucknow. Additionally, a provision of ₹130 crore has been proposed for free treatment of incurable diseases.
Significant Increase in MBBS and PG Seats
The Finance Minister informed that the number of MBBS seats has been increased from 4,540 in 2017 to 12,800. The number of PG seats has been increased from 1,221 to 4,995.
Provision of ₹14,997 crore for Medical Education
The government has proposed a provision of ₹14,997 crore for medical education. Currently, there are a total of 81 medical colleges in the state, 45 of which are government-run and 36 privately run. Currently, 60 districts are covered by medical college facilities, while medical colleges are proposed to be established in 16 such districts under the PPP model.
Mega Budget of ₹9 Lakh Crore
Finance Minister Suresh Khanna stated that this year a mega budget of ₹9,12,696.3 lakh crore is being presented. This new budget for Uttar Pradesh is 12.9 percent higher than the previous financial year. The Finance Minister stated that Uttar Pradesh is number one in agricultural production. Approximately 62,000 farmers have benefited under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. Our government has made record sugarcane payments.
