Honouring Democracy
Modi praised the United
States Congress for convening to honour the ties between two strong
democracies, India, and the United States. “I can relate to the struggles
of patience, persuasion, and policy,” he said. I can comprehend the debate
regarding ideas and ideologies. However, I am pleased to see you here to
celebrate the ties between two great democracies – India and the United
States.”
One of our most cherished
values is democracy. One thing has always been very clear: the principles of
democracy is one that promotes human dignity and equality. The whole nature of
democracy is to encourage discussion and debate. Freedom of expression and
thinking are fostered in a democratic society. India is fortunate to have
preserved these ideals for this age. “India is the mother of democracy,”
the prime minister stated.
Cultural Integration
Prime Minister Modi
referred to the cultural diversity between India and the United States, noting
the accomplishments of Indian-Americans as well as the importance of cultural
exchange in fostering mutual understanding and relationship.
“The vision of a
nation of equal individuals inspired the founding of America…There are
millions of people in this room with origins in India, and one of them is
sitting proudly behind me, he said.
“I am told that
the’samosa caucas’ is currently the most popular dish in the home. “I hope
it brings the full diversity of Indian culture here,” said PM Modi in a
joint session of the US Congress in reference to US Vice President Kamala Harris.
We honour Mahatma Gandhi
and Martin Luther King, Jr. We remember many others who fought for freedom,
equality, and justice,” the Prime Minister added.
Prime Minister Modi
praised government initiatives while highlighting India’s vibrant democracy,
unity within diversity, and commitment to inclusive development. Last year,
India celebrated 75 years of independence, he said. Each milestone is
significant, but this one was exceptional. After a thousand years of foreign
rule in some form, we marked the incredible journey of our 75 years of
independence. This was a celebration not only of democracy but also of
diversity.”
“India is the home
of all world religions, and we honour them all. In India, diversity is a
natural way of life, and worldwide is increasingly interested in learning more
about India,” he continued.
Artifical Intelligence
PM Modi also noted
the’momentous development’ in the relationship between India and the United
States. He stated, “There have been many advancements in AI – Artificial
Intelligence – over the past few years. Simultaneously, there have been even
more significant developments in another AI-America and India.”
Empowerment of Women
Prime Minister Narendra
Modi emphasised the importance of women in moulding a brighter future for
contemporary India. He emphasised India’s vision of not only a growth that
benefits women, but also a women-led development in which women guide the path
to progress. PM Modi honoured the remarkable accomplishments of women, citing
the story of Draupadi Murmu, the President of India, who emerged from a tribal
origin to take on the head of state.
Sustainable Development
Modi emphasised India’s
dedication to sustainable development and environmental stewardship, citing
steps such as achieving the Paris Agreement’s commitments and encouraging
renewable energy. He stated, that we are the only G20 nation to have met our
Paris commitment. Over 40% of our energy comes from renewable sources, nine
years ahead of the 2030 goal. We did not, however, stop there. At the Glasgow
Summit, I proposed mission Life… Our aim is pro-planet progress,
pro-prosperity, and pro-people on the planet.”
Significance of partnership between India-US
In order to meet the
challenges of the twenty-first century, from fostering economic development to
advancing technology, Prime Minister Modi stressed the importance of a strong collaboration
between India and the United States.
The United States has
evolved into a key partner in our military operations. India and the United
States are currently cooperating in a wide variety of fields, including space
exploration, maritime exploration, science, semiconductors, startups,
sustainability, technology, trade, agriculture, finance, the arts, and
artificial intelligence.
Our generation has the
privilege of bringing our relationship to new heights, but every Indian prime
minister and American president before us has done their part. To that end, I
agree with Vice President Biden that this collaboration is historic.
“‘Sabka Saath, Sabka
Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayaas’ is our vision. We are concentrating on
expanding our existing infrastructure. We have provided shelter for almost 150
million people, which is more than six times Australia’s population,” he
continued.
