Uttarkashi Cloudburst Update: Road to Dharali opened, 70 including 11 soldiers still missing

Uttarkashi Cloudburst Update: After the devastation in Uttarkashi, Dharali the search for life is on. While seven teams that includes NDRF and SDRF are also engaged on a war footing in the rescue operation. More than 225 army personnel are stationed on every front on the spot. So far 5 people have died in the accident while 70 people including 11 soldiers are missing. So far 190 people have been rescued. Rescue by helicopter was the only option due to the closure of the road. The injured were being taken to the hospital by helicopter.

However, the highway that was washed away in Bhatwari has now opened, due to which the road to Dharali has opened. There has been a big success in repairing the first crack in Bhatwari.

Second day of relief and rescue work

Today is the second day of relief and rescue work in Dharali and Harshil and with the opening of the road, it has now become possible to reach Dharali and Harshil. Let us tell you that the highway was washed away in Bhatwari. The teams of BRO & GREF kept struggling continuously to open the road. Preparations were being made to open the road by cutting the mountain at two places, however, this work got delayed due to limited resources. The weather is still clear. Now there is hope that the rescue operation will speed up.

Responsibility on air services

Let us tell you that until this road is not opened, the restoration of the bridge washed away in Gangwani could not be started, so all responsibility remained on air services. Relief and rescue workers were sent through small helicopters. The number of rescue workers had increased in Dharali and Harshil, but due to limited resources, the rescue mission was not able to pick up pace. At the same time, communication and electricity still remain a big challenge.

'Entire area was submerged in the flood in a few seconds'

The condition of the area in Dharali where the most devastation has occurred can be seen, how the entire house has been submerged in the debris of the flood. There is only debris all around the house. The flow of the flood was so strong that many houses in this area collapsed or were badly damaged. Right now the senario after the cloudburst in Dharali was absolutely terrifying and painful. According to a priest of the local temple, the entire area was submerged in the flood in a few seconds.

The people of Dharali say that they have not seen such devastation in their lifetime. They say that water entered hundreds of shops and houses in a short time. Regarding the devastation, another resident of Dharali said that debris suddenly came around. When this incident happened, about two hundred people were present in the village. After the devastation caused by the cloudburst in Dharali, rescue operations are going on at war level.

Relief material is being delivered through helicopters

Where a few hours ago there were hotel buildings, markets, shops, nature destroyed everything in a moment. Now teams are engaged in rescue operations there and the only support in this rescue operation is helicopters because the roads leading here have been completely broken. 7 teams of the Indian Army are continuously on the front. The news of relief is that the military helipad of Harshil has been fully operational. Relief material is being delivered through 3 civil helicopters. Rescue operations have gained momentum due to helicopter landing in Bhatwadi and Harshil.

Rain and landslide created problems

Let us tell you that devastating floods occurred at three places in Uttarkashi district. Dharali, Harshil and Sukhi Top. Now rescue operations are going on at these three places. Landslides are continuously happening there, it is raining, so there are difficulties in rescue.

Summary

The search for the 11 Indian Army soldiers who have gone missing in the floods has not been completed yet. It is also being said that a group of 28 tourists from Kerala are missing since the Dharali incident. However, since the accident, relief and rescue work is going on at war level. Rescue teams are working hard to provide help to the victims and search for lives.
