A police encounter in Ayodhya resulted in the death of one of the two men accused of attacking a woman cop who was discovered in a grievous state on a train last month. Aneesh, the accused, was killed during the encounter, while two other men, Azad Khan and Vishambhar Dayal, sustained bullet injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.

The joint operation was conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Police and the Lucknow Special Task Force (STF) in the Inayat Nagar area. Police are investigating potential connections between the injured men and the August 30 attack on the woman cop.

During the encounter, a police officer from the Kalandar police station, Ratan Sharma, also suffered injuries.

The victim, a woman constable, was found unconscious in a train compartment at Ayodhya station, lying in a pool of blood with severe injuries to her face and two skull fractures. The incident reportedly began with a dispute over a train seat when the victim was in the upper berth. The altercation escalated, and the accused attacked her as the train gained speed. After the attack, they left the train at Ayodhya station and fled the scene.

Following a complaint from the constable's brother, an FIR was registered, and an investigation was initiated. Chief Justice Pritinker Diwaker from the Allahabad High Court took suo motu action after receiving a WhatsApp message about the incident. He formed a bench and issued notices to the Centre and the Railway Police Force (RPF). The RPF was reprimanded for its perceived failure to fulfill its duties during the investigation into the case.
