Waqf Bill tabled in Parliament, government gave these 5 'assurances' to Muslims
The Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 has been introduced in the Lok Sabha. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, while introducing the bill, gave five major assurances to Muslims, including refusal to take action on mosques and a promise not to interfere in religious activities. The opposition demanded more time to discuss the bill and created a ruckus.
The government claimed that this bill deals only with Waqf properties and has nothing to do with religious places.
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju introduced it in the House for discussion in the afternoon after Question Hour. 8 hours have been fixed for discussion on this bill. During the introduction of the bill in Parliament, there was a lot of uproar from the opposition.
The opposition has also demanded to increase the time of discussion to 12 hours. While presenting the bill, the government has given 5 assurances to Muslims.

Kiren Rijiju said that 9727772 petitions were received regarding this bill, till date, more petitions have never been received regarding any bill. 284 delegations have presented their views in front of different committees. Those who oppose this bill with a positive attitude will also support it.

Government gave these 5 'assurances' to Muslims
1.While presenting the bill in Parliament, Kiren Rijiju assured Muslims that there is no provision for any action against any mosque in this bill. This is only a matter of property; this bill has nothing to do with religious institutions.
2.The government said that there is no provision for any kind of interference in the system of any religious place-mosque in the Waqf Amendment Bill. Neither any change nor any interference will be made in it.

3. There is no provision for interference in any religious activity in the Waqf Amendment Bill. We are not going to interfere in the management of any mosque. The Waqf Board will be within the ambit of the law, nothing will be done against the law.
4.Rijiju said that any officer above the collector will look into the dispute of government land and any disputed land. When Waqf property is created, it cannot be done by going to any tribal area. This change is important. There is no provision for any action against any mosque. The government said that there is no provision for interference in the management of the mosque in this bill.
5.The government promised that out of the total 22 members in the Center of Council, not more than 4 members can be non-Muslims. 3 members of Parliament including former officials will be elected. Members of Parliament can be of any religion.
