A water conference was organized in Rajula, Amreli district, in the presence of Union Jal Shakti C.R. Patil. Addressing the occasion, Union Water Power Minister C.R. Patil said, "If a person is elected, they become an MLA, but if a person is elected from the Bharatiya Janata Party, they become a worker. This is the big difference between the BJP and other parties."
Earlier, there was only 100 or 200 feet of water
The country receives 4,000 BCM of rainfall, while the requirement is 1,120 BCM. The work that should have been done for water storage has not been done over the years, resulting in only 750 BCM of water storage systems available with 6,600 dams. The remaining 370 BCM of water is obtained from underground sources. If a common man has money, he deposits it in a bank, makes a fixed deposit, and uses it when he earns interest. Similarly, we are using the water coming out of the ground. We are not storing water in the ground for the next generation. Where there used to be water at a depth of 100 or 200 feet, today it has gone down to a depth of 700 to 1,200 feet.
Water conservation is possible through public participation
Respected Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing a virtual event, said that water conservation should be transformed into a mass movement with public participation. The people of Gujarat and the entire country supported this initiative, heeding the call and constructing nearly 4 million structures at their own expense. All this work was possible due to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call.
32,000 crore rupees allocated for water conservation
Union Union Jal Shakti C.R. Patil further stated that when he visited Mumbai after 10 years, the entire city had changed. Dineshbhai Lakhani has pledged to build more than 50,000 water harvesting structures in Amreli and its talukas. It is impossible for anyone in Saurashtra to refuse to contribute to water conservation. The uniqueness of Gujaratis is that when they extend their hands, it is only to give, not to ask.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi built 75 lakes in every district. After people constructed these lakes at their own expense, the Prime Minister directed the Agriculture Minister to spend 65 percent of MNREGA funds on water conservation in backward areas, 40 percent in semi-backward areas, and 25 percent in general districts. ₹32,000 crore has been allocated for water conservation across the country.
