The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 'Yellow Alert' for Delhi-NCR for Tuesday and Wednesday, forecasting light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, gusty winds, and overcast skies over the next two days. At Safdarjung, the maximum temperature was recorded at 33.3 degrees Celsius—1.8 degrees below normal.

Conversely, in Kolkata, heavy rainfall on Monday forced the cancellation of an Indian Premier League (IPL) match.

Clouds to Persist Throughout the Day

The department states that on Wednesday, the maximum temperature is likely to hover around 31 degrees, while the minimum is expected to drop to 20 degrees. There is also a possibility of partly cloudy skies on April 9. Subsequently, the weather is expected to clear up on April 10 and 11, leading to a gradual rise in temperature; the maximum temperature is projected to range between 33 and 34 degrees Celsius. For now, the movement of clouds and intermittent rainfall have provided significant relief to people from the scorching heat.

The Meteorological Department has issued an 'Orange Alert' for the districts of Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, and Solan for Tuesday and Wednesday. The department has forecast that these regions are likely to experience hailstorms, thunderstorms, and strong winds blowing at speeds of 40–60 km per hour.

Additionally, an alert regarding similar weather conditions has been issued for Chamba and Sirmaur districts for Wednesday. A 'Yellow Alert' remains in effect for Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Solan, and Sirmaur. According to the Meteorological Department, a "wet spell" is expected to continue from April 6 to April 9 due to the influence of two active Western Disturbances.

Heavy Rainfall in Kolkata

Meanwhile, the weather in Kolkata and its surrounding areas has turned pleasant following rainfall caused by the influence of a Western Disturbance. After the intense heat of the preceding days, the overcast skies and light rain have led to a drop in temperature, offering considerable relief to the residents. On Monday, the IPL match between KKR and PBKS in Kolkata had to be called off due to adverse weather conditions.

Crops Ruined by Rain

The sudden rainfall and hailstorms—triggered by the Western Disturbance—across Delhi-NCR, Himachal Pradesh, and several other parts of North India have devastated standing crops. Unseasonal rains have inundated the fields, causing severe damage to standing crops of wheat, mustard, barley, and vegetables.
