What Is The '6 Bundiya' Insect:  Many times you see insects, moths or other creatures around you, which you make the mistake of considering as minor, but when it bites, it worsens the condition. One such insect found in the rural areas of Chhattisgarh is the 'Chhe Bundiya' or 'Chebunda' insect. Apart from Chhattisgarh, it is also seen in Jharkhand and some other states of Central India. It has been given this name due to the 6 dot-like spots present on its body, while scientifically it is called 'Six Spotted Beetle' or 'Anthia sexguttata'. Although there is a misconception that its bite can also cause death, but there is no evidence of this.

Appearance and identification

6 The Bundia insect is small in size. Its color is dark black or brown, and the body appears shiny. It usually has 6 dots on its body. However, these dots can also be seen on its wings. These spots distinguish it from common insects and on the basis of these, this insect can be easily identified.

Adult 'Anthia sexguttata' are about 4 cm (1.5 inches) long, black in color. Other patterns are also possible. Their larvae are flat in shape, have a large capsule on the head, and the jaws are protruding.

Where this is insects found?

According to the Entomostasis Journal, this species is found in the arid parts of South Asia. It is found in a variety of habitats, including natural forests and dry shrublands. It is also found in various human-modified habitats, including agricultural areas and urban parks.

The Chebunda worm is usually found in moist and dense vegetation or garbage areas. It is usually seen during the rainy season, while working in the fields or on the walls and roofs of houses. It can fly due to its wings, which helps it to reach from one place to another easily.

The Chebunda worm is also known for its sting. There is a misconception in villages that sometimes the bite of the Chebunda worm can cause death. However, there is no evidence of this. Experts say that people kill the worm in this misconception, while this is not correct.

According to Dr. VP Uniyalye, who has preserved samples in the WII National Repository, this worm releases a stream of formic acid. It does this when it senses any danger. Due to this, this worm has also got the nickname 'eye squirter'.

They basically eat insects and snails. They also help control agricultural pests, whether they are leaf-droppers that threaten teak trees or pests that cause a nuisance in sugar cane fields.

Another interesting fact is that the larvae can follow the scent of ants into their habitats and make them their food.
