What? South Korea to import foreign house helpers?

A strange problem has arisen in South Korea where the country is falling short of people who can work as house/domestic help.

The South Korean government presented a plan during a public hearing on the proposal of importing domestic help in the country. The government is planning to bring 100 people in the country to serve as house help as part of the Pilot Project.

Why?

There are several reasons behind this move. South Korea is country where women workforce has become importance. The engagement of women in the workforce results into the house not being probably managed well  without any house help.

another problem is that South Koreans who work as domestic helper are continuously ageing and the new generation is not ready to accept this task. this has led to big problem in south Korea about who will take care of house work?

Public Hearing

This is why the government is planning to bring people from South Asian countries like Philippines. The ministry of labor is planning to bring 100 people in the country who will work as domestic help.

These people will only be accepted in the country once their background check consisting of checking criminal background, drug addiction mental disease is completed.

They will be provided with vocational training and oriented to the culture of South Korea.

Language skills of such people will be tested . they should be comfortable in English/Korean language.

These workers will be given the E 9 visas and will also be employed in household. Certain types of households will be given preferences. These households will be families with single parent working, pregnant women and both the partners working.

These people will be paid according to the countries standard of minimum wages.

This problem has become a big issue because South Korean women do not want to leave their careers to take care of the house sacrifice their professional life and hard work. a family life will certainly disturbed if both partners are working, and they are not able to manage domestic work which will eventually stat impacting domestic lives.

When looked from an outside point of view, this news might feel strange for overpopulated countries like India. This new also tells us that South Korean society must have already dealt away with other important issues, if such a problem has risen. Countries like India are far far away to have a society where big societal challenges has been solved a new form of challenge ha come up where their are no people who are willing to work as domestic helpers.
