According to a former employee of Amazon, he quit his $203,000 (Rs.1.69 crore) job after receiving an order to report back to work.

The software development manager claimed that the significant pay decrease was "worth it" if compared to having to relocate across the nation and give up his ideal life to take the job.

When the Covid-19 pandemic broke out in April 2020, the New York-based software expert—whose identity has been withheld due to fears of professional backlash—told Business Insider that he had begun working with the e-commerce giant. He was not in the mood to move, having recently purchased a property.

Amazon sent out a request in February of this year asking staff members to start getting ready to go back to work. According to the software developer in question, the order caused havoc among the company's internal teams.

He claims that certain managers swiftly put the directive into effect and disciplined staff members who disobeyed. According to the website, this expert was answering to a manager who maintained that the former was employed in Seattle, which is almost 3,000 miles away from New York.

He claimed that even though the professional was promoted to a role that was designated as remote, the directive was still issued.

The man claimed that the relocation would cost him and his family an incredible Rs. 150,000 (Rs.1.24 crore), and he attempted to bargain and argue this point with the company officials. In addition, he requested a relocation package, but received no answer.

The professional said that following a discussion with his manager, he began applying for jobs. The way the business was kicking people out, he thought, was deliberate in the order. In the end, he was able to find employment again and is now receiving the same base pay as Amazon.
