When this matter surfaced on social media on Monday, December 8, it was not just a complaint, but a revelation that shook the entire system. Along with the complaint, a video clip and a detailed letter addressed to the Sultanpur District Magistrate, Superintendent of Police, and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also went viral. Later, several other victims came forward and gave their statements to the police. As soon as the matter gained momentum, the police swung into action, and Sub-Inspector Mohammad Raffan of Haliyapur police station registered a case against Assistant Manager Ashutosh Sarkar.
Who is this Ashutosh Sarkar?
The incident began with a newly married couple traveling by car on the Purvanchal Expressway. During their journey, the couple stopped their car a short distance before the toll plaza and engaged in romantic activity inside the car. CCTV cameras on the road are usually installed for security and traffic monitoring, but Ashutosh Sarkar allegedly misused these cameras. Due to his connection to the ATMS system, he had direct access to the live feed from the cameras.
He was working at Super Wave Communication and Infra Solution Private Limited
According to the complaint, Ashutosh recorded the couple's private moments. He then went to the spot, showed the couple the video, and extorted Rs. 32,000 from them. He threatened to make the video go viral if they didn't pay. However, even after receiving the money, Ashutosh uploaded the video to the internet. When the video went viral, the couple was shocked. Amidst embarrassment and fear, they gathered courage and complained to the Chief Minister, District Magistrate, and Superintendent of Police. This is how the matter became public.
The accused manager, Ashutosh Sarkar, was posted as an Assistant Manager at Super Wave Communication and Infra Solution Private Limited, an outsourcing company working on Package-3 of the Purvanchal Expressway. The company is working under NHAI and was given important responsibilities related to monitoring.
Several victims came forward
After the video went viral, the case was not limited to a single incident. Within two days, five to six more victims approached the police and administration. These victims stated that ATMS manager Ashutosh Sarkar was misusing the cameras installed on the expressway. He would monitor women, young girls, and families through the cameras. As soon as any suspicious activity was captured on camera, he would save the video and, after some time, approach the victims, intimidate and threaten them, and extort money from them.

The victims said that this had been going on for several months, but no one had the courage to file a complaint. People were silent due to embarrassment and fear of social stigma. But as soon as the viral video became public, several victims came forward and handed over concrete evidence to the police.
Accused's claim: I have been framed
In this case, the accused former toll manager Ashutosh Sarkar has completely denied the allegations against him. He says that this is all a conspiracy involving some of his colleagues who were jealous of his job. Ashutosh claims he has several pieces of evidence that can prove his innocence. He said that many people have access to the camera feeds, and he is being targeted and framed. The police have taken him into custody and begun questioning him. The police are also investigating whether any other person connected to the CCTV system was involved in this network.
What does the police say?
The police at Haliyapur police station say that the matter is being handled with extreme sensitivity. This is not only a serious violation of the right to privacy but also a misuse of the technical system. The investigation is also looking into where the viral videos were sent, who uploaded them, and who shared them.
