Why is France protesting again?
France is boiling again following major pension
reform protests a few months ago. Following the death of a youngster on Tuesday
(June 27) due to police brutality, protests have swept France over the past
week.

Protesters have burned cars and public buildings and
clashed with police. A burning automobile hit L’Hay-les-Roses’ mayor’s mansion
on Sunday. Mayor Vincent Jeanbrun said he was in the town hall monitoring the
violence when his wife and one of his children were attacked around 1:30 am
while they slept.
French media reported 78 arrests nationwide Sunday,
down from 719 the day before. Over 3,000 people have been arrested since the
protests began, with 45,000 police on the streets.
What is happening in France?
Large protests started in the suburbs of Paris and
have since spread to a few other French towns.
The death of Nahel, who was 17, on Tuesday set these
off. Nahel lived in the town of Nanterre, which is west of Paris. He was
supposedly driving around the city without a licence when two police officers
stopped him.
The yellow Mercedes and its young driver were seen
by the cops, according to Le Monde. They asked the driver to stop at a red
light, but the driver went through it. In the car with him were two other
people.
On the side of the road, the car stopped. Since
Nahel’s death, many people have seen a video that shows at least one of the
police officers had their gun pointed at the car while they talked. After the
car ignored the officials’ orders and drove away, a bullet was shot at the boy,
killing him, and the car then crashed into a nearby wall. The others in the car
got out and ran away.
