Following this news, speculation is also rife that Gautam Adani, Asia's second-richest businessman, may also be interested in purchasing the team. Previously, the Adani Group had also come forward for the Gujarat Titans, but the deal fell through at that time. Let us also tell you what updates have emerged regarding RCB.

EX IPL boss Lalit Modi shared this information through a social media post. It's also being reported that Gautam Adani may also be interested in purchasing the team.

Seeking a New Owner

2025 is proving to be a significant year for the Indian Premier League franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore, for both good and bad reasons. Earlier this year, RCB ended its IPL trophy drought by winning its first title, but this joyous occasion soon turned into a major tragedy when a stampede during their title celebrations in Bengaluru resulted in the deaths of 11 people and injuries to many others.

Now, former IPL head Lalit Modi has claimed that RCB's owners have made the final decision to remove the franchise from their balance sheet. In a lengthy post on social media, Modi stated that current owner Diageo PLC is seeking buyers.

Modi also said this:

In a social media post, Modi stated that there have been numerous rumors about the sale of the IPL franchise RCB. These rumors were initially denied. However, it appears the owners have finally decided to remove it from their balance sheet and sell it. This isn't the first time rumors of RCB's sale have surfaced. Earlier this year, several media outlets reported that Diageo PLC was in talks with several potential investors.

Modi wrote, "I am confident that with its IPL win last season and its strong fan base, team, and excellent management team, this could be the only team that would be fully available as an IPL franchise. I am confident that a large global fund or a sovereign fund could express an interest in acquiring RCB."

Could Adani buy the team?

There are also rumors that Gautam Adani, Asia's richest businessman, may also be interested in acquiring RCB. He has previously attempted to enter the IPL twice. In 2021, they narrowly missed out on acquiring the Gujarat Titans. A few years later, the opportunity to acquire a majority stake in the Gujarat Titans arose. The Torrent Group outbid the Adani Group and acquired the team.

Summary

Now, the Adani Group will once again have the opportunity to enter the IPL. Notably, Mukesh Ambani owns the Mumbai Indians team. If RCB comes to Adani's hands, the IPL stage could witness a different kind of battle between two of Asia's richest businessmen.
