World leaders, including US President Joe Biden and UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, are converging on New Delhi for the eagerly anticipated G20 Summit 2023, set to commence on September 9. Hosted at the Bharat Mandapam Convention Centre in Pragati Maidan, this two-day event is expected to place paramount importance on addressing a slew of pressing global issues, encompassing the clean energy transition, climate change mitigation, and the socio-economic ramifications of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, as well as poverty alleviation.

Joe Biden embarked on his journey to India, adhering to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines for COVID-19 safety. He is accompanied by top officials, including US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, deputy chief of staff Jen O'Malley Dillon, and director of Oval Office operations Annie Tomasini. Bilateral talks between President Biden and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are poised to focus on critical areas of cooperation, such as General Electric jet engines and civil nuclear technology.

Rishi Sunak, the British Prime Minister, is slated to land in New Delhi at 1.40 pm. During his visit, Sunak is expected to urge Prime Minister Modi to use his influence to pressure Russia over its ongoing invasion of Ukraine. This visit marks Sunak's first official trip to India since taking office in October. He and Modi are also anticipated to discuss the progress in the trade deal negotiations between their respective countries.

Other world leaders making their way to the summit include Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, who is set to arrive at Palam Air Force Station at 2.15 pm for his second visit to India, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who will be received at 7 pm amid concerns regarding the activities of Khalistani groups in Canada.

Chinese Premier Li Qiang will touch down at around 7.45 pm, representing China in lieu of President Xi Jinping, who will be absent from the G20 meeting. This absence comes amidst heightened trade and geopolitical tensions with both the United States and India. Nevertheless, India's External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, has downplayed the significance of Xi's absence, asserting that it will not impact negotiations to produce a consensus communique at the summit.

The G20 Summit 2023 in New Delhi is poised to be a critical forum for addressing these complex global issues and fostering international cooperation among world leaders.
