Nitish Kumar, the leader of the Janata Dal-United (JD-U), has taken oath as the Chief Minister of Bihar for an unprecedented ninth time. The swearing-in ceremony, held at Raj Bhavan, saw the induction of Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha.

Breaking Ties with "Mahagathbandhan"

Nitish Kumar's return to power comes after days of speculation and political maneuvering. The veteran politician resigned as the Chief Minister, citing the "not right" state of affairs under the Mahagathbandhan alliance with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress. The unexpected move led to the formation of a new government, with the support of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The swearing-in ceremony witnessed the presence of BJP chief JP Nadda, generating excitement among the attendees. Chants of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's name and slogans echoed in the air as the political landscape in Bihar witnessed a shift.

Nitish Kumar, known for his political acumen, has a storied political journey. He first became Chief Minister in 2000, campaigning against the "Jungle Raaj" of RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav. Over the years, Nitish has navigated alliances and divergences, leaving and rejoining the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and forming alliances with opposition parties.

In 2013, Nitish broke ranks with the NDA over the prime ministerial candidacy of Narendra Modi. In 2017, he formed a grand alliance with the RJD and Congress, only to part ways again in 2017, citing corruption and governance issues.

In 2022, Nitish Kumar severed ties with the BJP once more, alleging conspiracy and attempts to influence JD-U MLAs against him. Despite the political turbulence, Nitish has managed to retain the Chief Minister's chair and keep his party intact.

As Bihar witnesses this political realignment, the dynamics of governance and alliance-building in the state are set to evolve under Nitish Kumar's leadership once again.
