The government of Odisha, has taken an important step for women employees, in which they will be provided 180 days of maternity leave. Meanwhile the Chief Minister said, "We want to empower women and give them an opportunity to spend quality time with their family." The move is being seen as a positive sign to increase the number of women employees in the state and maintain balance in their workplace.

However the notification issued by the state finance department on Thursday night, women employees can take 180 days of leave, while male employees will be entitled to 15 days of paternity leave. It said that this benefit will be given to both

Taking a big decision, the Odisha government has announced to give 180 days of maternity leave to employees who become mothers through surrogacy. That is, now the woman who has become a mother even after taking a rented womb will also get 180 days of maternity leave like ordinary women.

Commissioning father'

Even though male employee of a state government, who has less than two living children, if he becomes a 'commissioning father', will be entitled to 15 days of paternity leave. 'Commissioning father' means the biological father of the child who is born through surrogacy.
