The government has planned to e-auction the gifts and souvenirs received by the Prime Minister on various occasions, on his birthday. Though the e-auction will run from September 17 to October 2. While the money gathered by auction will be given to the Namami Gange project.

Items of Paralympic medal winners

Meanwhile from shoes and other items of Paralympic medal winners, or the replica of the Ram temple and a silver veena are among the gifts and souvenirs received by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which will be auctioned soon. Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said on Monday that the total base price of these items to be put up for auction will be around Rs 1.5 crore.

While Shekhawat visited the exhibition displaying the souvenirs received by the Prime Minister at the National Gallery of Modern Art here. Later, he said that the base price for the auction of these gifts is decided by the government committee and the prices range from a minimum of Rs 600 to a maximum of Rs 8.26 lakh.

Auctioning all the gifts and souvenirs PM received

All though Prime Minister has started a new culture of auctioning all the gifts and souvenirs he receives. He used to do this even as Chief Minister. He said that the gifts received by the Prime Minister are returned to the people through auction and the money earned from the auction is used for a noble cause 'cleaning the Ganga'.

Amount will go to the National Ganga Fund

While the auction is being held for the sixth time and the money raised through it will be donated to the National Ganga Fund. This time about 600 items received as gifts by Prime Minister Modi in the last one year will be auctioned.

The price of gift?

In the while items whose base price has been kept the highest include the badminton rackets of Paralympic bronze medalists Nitya Sri Sivan and Sukant Kadam, as well as the 'discus' of silver medalist Yogesh Khatunia. Their base price has been fixed around Rs 5.50 lakh. The base price of a signed cap of silver medallist Sharad Kumar has been set at around Rs 2.86 lakh, besides shoes donated by Paralympic bronze medallists Ajeet Singh and Simran Sharma and silver medallist Nishad Kumar.
