PM Modi, Amit Shah pay tribute to brave Jawans 22 years after parliament attack
22 years of parliament attack: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with prominent political figures such as Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president JP Nadda, and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, gathered at the old Parliament building to pay their respects to the fallen Jawans on the 22nd anniversary of the Parliament Attack.

During the solemn occasion, PM Modi engaged with the families of the Jawans who sacrificed their lives in the December 13, 2001, attack. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, and other leaders, including Congress MPs Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, also honored the fallen Jawans by offering floral tributes.
The Parliament Attack on December 13, 2001, claimed the lives of Assistant Sub-Inspectors Jagdish, Matbar, Kamlesh Kumari; Nanak Chand, and Rampal from Delhi Police; Om Prakash, Bijender Singh, and Ghanshyam, Head Constables in Delhi Police; and Deshraj, a gardener from CPWD. They valiantly defended the Parliament against terrorists affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), both Pakistan-raised terrorist organizations.
The attack resulted in the deaths of five Delhi Police personnel, two Parliament Security Service personnel, one CRPF Constable, and a gardener. The incident heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, leading to the 2001-2002 India-Pakistan standoff.
Five terrorists, affiliated with LeT and JeM, infiltrated the Parliament in a car with Home Ministry and Parliament labels. They were neutralized during the attack. The perpetrators used a fake identity sticker on their vehicle, breaching security easily. The terrorists were armed with AK47 rifles, grenade launchers, and pistols.
The gunmen targeted the vehicle of Indian Vice President Krishan Kant, who was inside the building at the time. Vice President's guards and security personnel engaged the terrorists, leading to the closing of the compound gates. Indian security agencies and Delhi Police officials stated that the gunmen received instructions from Pakistan, and the operation was orchestrated under the guidance of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency.
