that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trip to the United States will mark
a historic turning point in the bilateral relationship between India and the
United States. Discussions will focus on strengthening the two countries’
defence ties, as well as expanding their economic and cultural ties.

highlights of PM Modi’s second day in the United States:


  • Bidens Greetings, Prime Minister
    Narendra Modi! Young dancers from company Dhoom, an Indian dance company in the
    Washington, D.C. area, performed a musical tribute that was well received by
    Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Joe Biden, and First Lady Jill Biden.

 

  • In
    connection with the visit, President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden presented
    gifts to Prime Minister Modi. The official gift was an antique, handcrafted
    American book galley from the early 20th century, symbolizing the nation’s
    literary heritage and craftsmanship.

 

  • Modi began the second day of his visit
    to the United States by conducting the Yoga Day celebrations at the UN
    Headquarters in New York. Modi paid honour to a statue of Gandhi alongside
    dignitaries from around the globe at the UN headquarters. The event set the
    Guinness World Record for the most countries represented at any yoga event.
    Afterward, he left for Washington.
  • The Indian prime minister was welcomed
    to the nation’s capital by expats, and both the Indian and American national
    anthems were played upon his arrival at the Joint Andrews Air Force Base.
  • Jill Biden arranged a side excursion for
    Vice President Biden to the headquarters of the Virginia National Science
    Foundation in Alexandria, Virginia. Both the first lady and Modi, the PM,
    engaged with American and Indian students.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accompanied
    by First Lady Jill Biden, recently gave a speech at the National Science
    Foundation in Virginia, during which he claimed, that Under Skill India, they
    have skilled over 50 million people in the field of artificial intelligence,
    blockchain, drone, and others
  • Modi met with CEOs of major
    corporations, including General Electric’s Lawrence Culp Jr. and Applied
    Materials’ Gary Dickerson and Sanjay Mehrotra.
  • Remarks from the US NSA on Human Rights
    Discussions: US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan stated that while
    President Joe Biden is expected to bring up the degradation of democracy in India,
    he would not lecture Narendra Modi on the subject, as hundreds of US senators
    wrote to Biden urging him to raise human rights issues with Modi.
