PM Narendra Modi, on his visit to the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in Trichy on Saturday, immersed himself in the rich cultural heritage of Tamil Nadu. Dressed in traditional attire, donning veshti and angavastram, the PM Modi offered prayers at the renowned temple.

Connecting with Tamil Culture
PM Narendra Modi's cultural exploration included a unique experience – listening to verses from 'Kambaramayanam,' a 12th-century epic composed by the esteemed Tamil poet Kambar. The 'Kambaramayanam' is an ancient rendition of the Ramayana, and Kambar is said to have first presented his masterpiece at the very Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple.
Blessings from 'Andal' and Spiritual Recitation
During his temple visit, PM Narendra Modi sought blessings from an elephant named 'Andal' and later engaged with a scholar reciting verses from the 'Kambaramayanam.' The PM Narendra Modi even took a seat at the historic 'Kamba Ramayana Mantapam,' emphasizing the enduring connection between Tamil, Tamil Nadu, and the epic tale of Sri Ram.
Historical Significance of Sri Ranganatha Swamy Temple
The Sri Ranganatha Swamy temple at Srirangam holds special significance in the PM Narendra Modi's spiritual itinerary. As one of the oldest temple complexes in the country, it is deeply connected with Lord Ram. The deity worshipped here, Sri Ranganatha Swamy, is believed to have been originally worshipped by Lord Ram and his ancestors, linking the temple to the epic's timeless narrative.
Warm Welcome and Historical First
PM Modi's arrival in Tiruchirappalli drew a large and enthusiastic crowd along his route. The temple priests greeted the Prime Minister with Sanskrit slogans written on the road. Expressing joy over the visit, Chief Priest Sundar Bhattar remarked that it was a historic occasion, as no Prime Minister had visited Srirangam before.
Continuing the Spiritual Journey
Following his visit to the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to perform Darshan and Pooja at the Sri Arulmigu Ramanathaswamy Temple in Rameswaram. This temple, dedicated to Sri Ramanathaswamy, holds significance as one of the Char Dhams and is among the revered 12 Jyotirlingas.
