In Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for several development projects worth over Rs. 20,000 crore on Tuesday. These projects are connected to the aviation, train, road, oil and gas, shipping, and higher education sectors.

Additionally, he presided over the opening of Tiruchirappalli International Airport's new terminal building.

The development of the two-story terminal building came at a cost of more than Rs. 1100 crore. According to a previous official statement from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), it can accommodate over 44 lakh passengers annually, with approximately 3,500 passengers using it during peak hours.

From January 2–3, the Prime Minister will be visiting the southern states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and the Union Territory of Lakshadweep for two days.

PM When Modi arrived in Tiruchirappalli, Governor RN Ravi, and State Chief Minister MK Stalin welcomed him. He took part in the 38th Bharathidasan University Convocation Ceremony.

During his speech, he cited the university's slogan, "Puthiyathor Ulagam Seivom," which is derived from the Tamil lyrics of poet Bharathidasan. He remarked that this signified establishing a strong new world.

He added that young Indians were already building this kind of environment. Missions such as Chandrayaan-3 have put Indian scientists on the global map, and 'our inventors took the number of patents from around 4,000 in 2014 to around 50,000 presently.' In his speech, Prime Minister Modi wished for everyone's prosperity and peace in the year 2024.
