8 people dead in building collapse
The incident took place in the city's Hennur area, in a locality called Babusapalya, amid heavy rains. However, sources said that the reason for the building collapse was not rain, but poor-quality material and shoddy construction.
While CCTV has captured the footage of collapse building. According to sources, the pillar rods for the building were supposed to be 28-30 mm thick, but the thickness of the rods used was only 18-20 mm. In other parts, such as for molding, where 14-16 mm thick rods should have been used, it is likely that the rods used were only 8-10 mm thick. He said it is also likely that less cement and more sand were used in the construction than required.

People still trapped inside the debris
In the meanwhile, police said that with this the number of people who lost their lives in the accident has now increased to eight. Though police further added that since the incident took place on Tuesday, teams of Fire and Emergency Department, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force have been engaged in relief and rescue operations at the site.
Building owner arrested
A senior police officer said, "Muniraj Reddy his son Bhuvan Reddy and the contractor Muniyappa who built the building have been taken into custody.
The officer said, "Permission was given to build only four floors but seven floors were constructed." The rescue and relief work are taking place at the incident spot. Till now 13 workers have been rescued from the site of the incident.
