Central Government: The Central Government took a big decision on Thursday for the workers across the country and announced to increase the minimum wage rate to Rs 1,035 per day. However Centre has taken this decision by revising the variable dearness allowance for workers.  Meanwhile the Ministry of Labour  said that the main objective of this decision is to help the workers to overcome the rising cost of living.

Increased the minimum wage rate

After this amendment, the minimum wage rate in sector 'A' for workers doing unskilled work like construction, cleaning, loading and unloading of goods will be Rs 783 per day. The Ministry of Labour said that the Central Government has announced an increase in the minimum wage rates by revising the variable dearness allowance (VDA) as an important step to support the workers, especially those working in the unorganized sector.

Workers will get how much minimum wage

The minimum wage rate for semi-skilled workers will be Rs 868 per, day and the minimum wage rate for skilled, clerical and unarmed watchman or guard will be Rs 954 per day. The minimum wage rate for highly skilled and people doing watchman or guard work with weapons will be Rs 1,035 per day. Let us tell you that the minimum wage rates were last revised in April, 2024.

Workers had protested

Earlier this week, thousands of workers had protested across the country. They had demanded a wage hike and the repeal of four labour laws. They say that these laws favor multinational companies.

Wages are revised twice in a year

Meanwhile the centre revises the VDA twice a year. It is effective from April 1 and October 1. This revision is based on the six-month average increase in the Consumer Price Index for workers.
