C. R. Patil on Tuesday welcomed the Union Cabinet’s decision to approve an additional Rs 1.51 lakh crore for completing the Jal Jeevan Mission.

Speaking at the 11th edition of the India Industry Water Conclave and the 13th FICCI Water Awards in New Delhi, the minister said the funding boost will help accelerate the mission aimed at providing safe tap water to households across the country.

Patil also urged industries to adopt stronger measures for water conservation and water storage to support sustainable water management.

Plan to divert surplus Indus water

The minister said the government is also working on plans to divert surplus water from the Indus River System to several northern states.

According to him, the move is aimed at improving water availability in Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi and Rajasthan.

FICCI Water Awards presented

During the event, Patil also presented the FICCI Water Awards in four categories that recognise excellence in water conservation and sustainable water management.

Biome Environment Trust received the award for Water Initiatives by an NGO, while Earth Fokus Earthwise Private Limited was recognised for Innovation in Water Technology.

The awards are an annual initiative by the FICCI Water Mission to honour organisations and institutions contributing to water conservation and sustainable water management practices.
