IND vs AUS Test: India's veteran spin bowler Ravichandran Ashwin retired from all three formats of cricket on Wednesday. Ashwin said goodbye to international cricket by giving this information in the press conference after the Gaba Test. During this, captain Rohit Sharma was also with him. Sharma revealed that Ashwin wanted to retire after the first match itself. But he persuaded Ashwin to stay till the Pink Ball Test.

Rohit revealed that Ashwin understands the team's plans and combination and so he announced his retirement after the match in Brisbane. Rohit said, 'When I came to Perth, I heard about R Ashwin's retirement. I was not there for the first few days of the Test. Since then, this thing was on his mind. Obviously, there are many things behind this.'

He further told how Ashwin wanted to announce retirement only after the Perth Test, but the captain persuaded him to play the Pink Ball Test. Rohit said, 'Ashwin wanted to retire only after the Perth Test, but we persuaded him for the Adelaide Day-Night Test.' Rohit further said, 'Ashwin himself will be able to answer this. He understands what kind of combination we are thinking about. Even when we came here, we were not sure which spinner was going to play. We just wanted to assess what kind of conditions we would play in. This happened because he felt that if I am not needed in the series right now, it would be better if I say goodbye to the game.'

Before retirement, Ashwin was seen sitting with Virat Kohli in the dressing room. During this, Kohli also hugged him. Ashwin was a part of Team India in the Adelaide Day Night Test. I still have cricket left in me, but now I would like to show that in club level cricket.

I have a lot of memories with Rohit and the rest of the players. I would like to thank the BCCI and fellow players. I would also like to name a few people. All the coaches who were a part of this journey. Rohit, Virat, Rahane, who took many catches and helped me take my wickets.

Thanks to the Australian cricket team as well, I always enjoyed playing against them." Ashwin played 287 matches in all three formats of cricket and took 765 wickets. Ashwin is India's second-highest wicket-taker.

Only Anil Kumble is ahead of Ashwin

R Ashwin has taken 537 wickets in 106 matches in Test cricket. He took five wickets 37 times and 10 wickets in a match eight times. Ashwin took 156 wickets in 116 ODIs. He took 72 wickets in 65 T20 matches. Ashwin scored 3503 runs in Test cricket as a batsman and scored a total of six Test centuries. He has a total of eight centuries in first class cricket. He has 707 runs in ODI cricket and 184 runs in T20.
