youths started the 'Nabanna Abhiyan'
In the while we try to tell you what is 'Nabanna Abhiyan' and why the thousands of youth gathered on roads. This Abhiyan is started from two places of the city today itself, to disperse them, the police lathi-charged and fired tear gas shells. The campaign mainly consists of youth who are demanding the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the arrest of those responsible for the incident in the case of rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Hospital. Nabanna is the secretariat of the West Bengal government.
March started from Santragachi in Howrah
However the youth are blaming the CM for not handled the situation and failed in providing security to women. They say that this is the reason behind the RG Kar Hospital incident, against which protests were held across the country. The march organised by the student organisation 'Chhatra Samaj' and the state government employees' 'Sangrami Joutha Manch' started from College Square in North Kolkata and Santragachi in Howrah. A participant in the march, which was being taken out amid heavy police deployment, said, "Whatever happens, we will reach Nabanna. We have to reach the state secretariat demanding the resignation of the Chief Minister, whose administration is trying to save those responsible for this heinous crime and suppress the incident. Chhatra Samaj said that Police put up barricades on and around the roads leading to Nabanna to stop the protesters. Police have said that prohibitory orders have been imposed in the area. Police lathicharged and fired tear gas shells to disperse the protesters moving towards Nabanna. 'Chhatra Samaj' spokesperson Sayan Lahiri said that this rally is apolitical. He said that despite being provoked, we want to keep our campaign peaceful and democratic by declaring it as RG against the heinous crime committed against our sister in the hospital. We demand justice for her and her family.
