India-Maldives:  The President Mohammad Muizzu, who once raises the slogan 'India Out', will be on a visit to India from 6-10 October. While this will be his second visit to New Delhi in four months. Earlier Maldives President came to New Delhi in June to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

This is his second visit in 4 months

Though President Mohammad Muizzu of Maldives, was here to attend the swearing-in ceremony of PM Modi. Meanwhile The Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement that during his visit, Muizzu will meet President Draupadi Murmu and discuss bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest with PM Modi.

Visit to India from 6-10 October

During this visit, President Muizzu will meet Indian President after which there will be bilateral talks with PM Narendra Modi. Though the two leaders are expected to discuss all aspects of bilateral relations. Possibly, some important agreements will also be reached.

Muizzu's India tour plan also includes Mumbai and Bengaluru

The Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement, that Muizzu will also visit Mumbai and Bengaluru, where he will attend business events. However the external  issues a statement, "Maldives is a key maritime neighbour of India in the Indian Ocean Region and holds a special place in the Prime Minister's 'SAGAR' (Security and Growth for All in the Region) and India's 'Neighbourhood First Policy' vision.

When India-Maldives relations became tense

Relations between India and Maldives became tense after Muizzu, who is seen as a pro-China leader, took charge of the island nation. Muizzu came to power after his 'India Out' campaign, where he demanded the withdrawal of Indian troops and support staff from Maldives.

Will the bitterness between the two countries end?

Soon after, a diplomatic row erupted after a ministers in the Muizzu cabinet used derogatory language against PM Modi as Modi had posted some pictures on his social media promoting Lakshadweep. Those ministers were removed from the cabinet, tourism in Maldives took a hit and the number of tourists from India

Muizzu's first official visit to India

While a statement issued from Muizzu's office said that he is committed to furthering bilateral relations with those countries which are playing an important role in the development of Maldives. In the meanwhile Maldives President first official tour of India. He came to India during the swearing-in ceremony of PM Narendra Modi in June. At that time, he expressed happiness on receiving the Prime Minister's invitation and attending the swearing-in ceremony.

Why the relations between the two countries are not going well

Mohammed Muizzu victorious in the elections held in September last year. At that time, he had promised in his election campaign that he would expel the Indian soldiers present in Maldives from the country. He also reiterated this in his first address. Meanwhile, several rounds of talks were held between the two countries regarding the transfer of Indian staff who was engaged in medical emergency, rescue and maritime patrolling. After this, India deployed technical staff instead of military staff.
