Nitish Kumar is likely to resign as Chief Minister of Bihar on April 14 after taking oath as a Rajya Sabha member in New Delhi, according to sources.

Kumar will travel to New Delhi on Thursday and is scheduled to take oath as a Rajya Sabha MP on April 10. He is expected to return to Patna thereafter and step down from his post.

Sources said a meeting of the NDA Legislature Party has been called in Patna on April 14, where Kumar may formally announce his resignation.

BJP likely to lead government

For the first time in the state, the BJP is set to lead the government, with Samrat Chaudhary emerging as the frontrunner for the मुख्यमंत्री post.

JD(U) leader Vijay Kumar Chaudhary has indicated that the BJP will take the lead in forming the next government.

Key meetings in Delhi

A meeting of senior BJP leaders is scheduled in Delhi on April 10, the same day Kumar takes oath in the Rajya Sabha.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are expected to attend the बैठक, where discussions on government formation in Bihar may take place.

Senior leaders including Sanjay Saraogi and Vijay Kumar Sinha are also likely to be present.

New government likely by April 15

Sources indicated that a new government could be formed on April 14 or April 15 following Kumar’s resignation.

The swearing-in ceremony is expected to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
