SC allows removal of Grape-4 in Delhi-NCR, now Grape-2 and 3 will be applicable
Supreme Court: The Supreme Court has issued an order to remove Grape-4 after the hearing. ASG Bhati on behalf of CAQM said that AQI is going down. But it depends on the weather. Downgrading is happening since November 29. Let us tell you that after facing continuous air pollution in the city for the last one month, Delhi's air quality improved today and AQI reached the 'moderate' category at 161.
Supreme Court issued an order to remove Grape-4
Supreme Court said that considering the data, we do not think it would be appropriate to allow the Commission to go below Grape 2 at this stage. It is necessary to monitor it further by the court.
Though we allow the Commission to implement GRAP 2, it would be appropriate to include additional measures of GRAP 3 in it and we allow it to do so. We have to record here that if it is found that the AQI goes above 350, then as a precaution, GRAP 3 has to be implemented immediately. If someday the AQI crosses 400, then GRAP 4 should be implemented again.
SC allow Commission to implement GRAP 2
A bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Augustine George Masih suggested the CAQM to include some additional measures of GRAP-3 in the phase-two restrictions. The bench told the CAQM that if the air quality index crosses the 350 marks, then phase three restrictions will be implemented and if the AQI crosses 400, then phase-four restrictions will be implemented.
The SC bench of Justices suggested
The ASG said that the court should see holistically how the air of Delhi remains during November-December. Unfortunately, our meteorological department does not allow conditions like European or Finland. Our geographical location is not like European countries. The air quality is also not the same. That is, the two cannot be compared.
If the air quality index crosses 350 marks
With the improvement in the air quality index in Delhi-NCR, the Supreme Court has allowed CAQM to relax the restrictions of GRAP-4. Under GRAP-4, commercial trucks were banned from entering Delhi. Medium and heavy vehicles running on diesel were also banned. But now after the removal of GRAP-4, all these restrictions have also been removed.
