According to reports, the Deputy Chief Minister departed from La Marts ground in Lucknow for Kaushambi. Minutes after takeoff, the helicopter's cabin suddenly began to fill with smoke and the display suddenly went off, causing panic among those inside.

Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the pilot immediately contacted Lucknow ATC and requested permission for an emergency landing at Amausi Airport. Tight security arrangements were in place at the airport during the emergency landing.
