Bharat Ratna Award: President Droupadi Murmu is set to confer the prestigious Bharat Ratna to five eminent personalities at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Saturday. Among the recipients are former Prime Ministers Chaudhary Charan Singh and PV Narasimha Rao, former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur, agronomist MS Swaminathan, and BJP veteran LK Advani.

Surprisingly, four of the five awards given this year are awarded after the recipients have passed away, which means Advani, who is 96 years old, is the only one still alive to receive the honor.

Recognition of Exceptional Contributions

Earlier this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recommended these five individuals for the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honor. President Murmu, as reported by ANI news agency, will confer the prestigious award on Lal Krishna Advani on Sunday, paying a special visit to his residence. This decision was made considering Advani's ailing health, according to sources within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Advani, a founding member of the BJP, played a pivotal role in shaping the party's trajectory during the 1990s.

Diverse Contributions of Awardees

Karpoori Thakur, known for his advocacy of backward empowerment, and PV Narasimha Rao, a Congress veteran who served as Prime Minister from 1991 to 1996, are among the distinguished awardees. Chaudhary Charan Singh, a prominent figure in anti-Congress politics and former Prime Minister (1979-80), also receives the honor.
