The Prime Minister's internship scheme, announced by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman during her Budget speech on July 23, is officially launched on October 3. Aspiring interns can start applying from October 12. This initiative is a partnership between the central government and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

How the Application Process Works The scheme will use a special portal to shortlist candidates. It aims to select double the number of applicants for each internship position based on their profiles and preferences. Once shortlisted, companies will choose the final candidates and send them offer letters.


Internship Opportunities Participants will have the chance to intern at the top 500 companies in India. These internships are part of the companies' corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts. Interns will receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 5,000 and one-time financial assistance of Rs. 6,000.


Eligibility Criteria To qualify for the internship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Age: Must be between 21 and 24 years old.
  • Residency: Must be a permanent resident of India.
  • Employment Status: Must be unemployed and not currently working full-time.

Application Documents Needed To apply for the internship, candidates need to prepare several documents:

  • Aadhaar card
  • Email ID
  • Mobile number
  • Address proof
  • PAN card
  • Ration card

Goals of the Scheme The initiative aims to provide one crore internships over the next five years. The internships will focus heavily on practical work, ensuring that at least 50% of the training involves hands-on experience. This is designed to help interns apply their theoretical knowledge in real business settings.

Who Is Excluded? Certain groups are not eligible for this internship:

  • Graduates from top institutes like IITs or IIMs.
  • Individuals aged 25 and above.
  • Those currently in full-time employment.
