Rajasthan Legislative Assembly Witnesses Unprecedented Oath-Taking Event with 190 MLAs Taking Vows"

In a significant development, 190 newly-elected members of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly took their oath of office. The swearing-in ceremony began with Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, followed by Deputy Chief Ministers Diya Kumari and Prem Chand Bairwa. Out of the 199 members elected in November, 190 took their oath on Wednesday, with the remaining set to do so on Thursday.

The November elections saw the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) triumph over the incumbent Congress on 199 out of 200 seats. The inaugural session of the 16th legislative assembly commenced at 11 am, featuring a mix of Hindi and Sanskrit oaths. Notably, leaders Zubair Khan (Congress) and Yoonus Khan (independent) chose to take their oaths in Sanskrit.

Additional members, including Gopal Sharma, Chhagan Singh, Jogeshwar Garg, Noksham Choudhary, Jetanand Vyas, Pabbaram Vishnoi, Mahant Pratappuri, Babu Singh Rathore, Deepti Maheshwari, Kailash Meena, and Vasundhara Raje, also took their oaths.

Despite a desire from some MLAs to swear in the local Rajasthani language, this request was denied, citing its exclusion from the VIII schedule of the Indian Constitution. The absent MLAs are scheduled to take their oath on Thursday, along with the election for the Speaker's post, where Vasudev Devnani has been named as the BJP's candidate.

This ceremony marks a unique occurrence in Rajasthan, as MLAs are sworn in before the formation of the Cabinet. The proceedings faced objection from Congress MLA Shanti Dhariwal, who raised concerns about the short notice for the session.

The newly formed Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP) MLAs made a distinctive entrance in traditional tribal attire, while independent MLA Ritu Banawat arrived on a tractor, and BJP MLA Jethanand Vyas chose a bike.

Amidst the varied entries, Congress MLAs made a statement by wearing black ribbons on their arms in protest against the suspension of MPs in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

In terms of assembly composition, the BJP holds 115 seats, Congress has 69, Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP) 3, BSP 2, Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) and Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) each have 1, and 8 are independents, with one seat remaining vacant.
