Rajnish Kumar appointed as Chairman of Mastercard India, formerly serving to the State Bank of India (SBI)
On September 14, Mastercard announced Rajnish Kumar's appointment as Chairman of Mastercard India. Kumar formerly served as the Chairman of the State Bank of India (SBI).

According to a release from Mastercard, Kumar will assist the division president for South Asia and country corporate officer for India, Gautam Aggarwal, in navigating the domestic payments environment.
According to Ari Sarker, President, Asia Pacific, Mastercard, Kumar will be actively involved in bolstering the local leadership team's efforts to increase the company's domestic footprint while supporting Mastercard's ongoing commitment to forming strategic alliances with participants across the payments ecosystem, including banks, fintechs, governments, non-profits, and more.
Rajnish Kumar, Chairman of Mastercard India said that, he is eager to share his expertise, experience, and knowledge with Mastercard as the company grows to be an even more strategically important player for businesses in both the public and private sectors of India.
Rajnish Kumar has worked for SBI for almost four decades and has held a variety of managerial positions at SBI and its affiliates. He oversaw the creation of SBI's online platform, YONO. More recently, according to Mastercard, he finished a three-year term as SBI Chairman in October 2020.
As a director, Kumar sits on the boards of numerous organisations and businesses, including HSBC Asia Pacific, L&T, and Brookfield Property Management. Additionally, he serves as the chairman of the boards of both BharatPe and the prestigious MDI, Gurgaon.
