History remembers the man. Cinema remembers the woman who shaped him, and that’s exactly what will be displayed on the canvas with V. Shantaram, a biopic that captures the life and journey of the cinema titan alongwith his second wife and a recognised actress of her era, Jayashree. The power-packed performer Tamannaah Bhatia makes a significant transition in her career by stepping into the space of a biopic and essaying the role of Jayashree, an actresses of her era who made significant contributions to the legacy of V. Shantaram.

Jayashree displayed her natural grace and singing talent by playing the titular role in Shakuntala (1943). In 1946, she added another notable title to her body of work with Dr. Kotnis Ki Amar Kahani where she played Ching Lan, a challenging Chinese character. Next, Jayashree sang memorable songs in Padosi, V Shantaram’s film that addressed Hindu-Muslim unity during a time of pre-Independence communal tension. In the next few years, Jayashree served a series of memorable films like Dahej, Parchhain with V. Shantaram and Sandhya, Subah Ka Tara with V. Shantaram and Pradeep Kumar and many more - all while cementing herself as a notable performer and adding a significant arc in V Shantaram’s film journey. It was in 1941 when Jayashree married V. Shantaram and formed a partnership that would influence Indian cinema for years to come. Jayashree’s journey and contributions are a pivotal part of V.Shantaram’s legacy, becoming the interpretive lens of his universe. And that’s exactly what Tamannaah will bring to life in V. Shantaram.
