Prime Minister Narendra Modi played host to world leaders at Rajghat, the revered samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi, where they paid homage and laid wreaths in honor of the father of the nation.

The solemn gathering took place during the 18th G20 Summit, organized at the Bharat Mandapam Convention Centre in New Delhi. On the summit's opening day, PM Modi welcomed leaders from more than 30 countries and organizations, including US President Joe Biden and UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

The first day of the G20 Summit witnessed several significant developments. Notably, there was unanimous agreement on the Delhi Declaration, a pivotal moment marking 100% consensus among member nations. Furthermore, the African Union was formally inducted into the group, symbolizing a commitment to inclusivity and representation.

The day also saw the establishment of a biofuel alliance and the announcement of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IECC EC). A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish the IECC EC was signed by India, the US, UAE, Saudi Arabia, France, Germany, Italy, and the European Union, highlighting the collaborative approach toward economic development and connectivity.

The evening concluded with a grand dinner hosted by President Droupadi Murmu, attended by nearly 400 guests at the G20 venue. Prime Minister Modi extended a warm welcome to global leaders from the reception dais, framed by the historic backdrop of the Nalanda University ruins in Bihar.

During the G20 Summit, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak emphasized the need for global collaboration and concerted efforts in preparation for the upcoming COP28 Summit in December. Sunak urged leaders to take collective action to reduce their countries' carbon emissions and extend assistance to economically vulnerable nations grappling with the challenges of climate change.

In a significant announcement, the United Kingdom pledged record climate aid by committing $2 billion to the Green Climate Fund. This commitment marks the largest single funding contribution made by the UK to support the global fight against climate change. The UK's substantial contribution, amounting to £1.62 billion, underscores its commitment to addressing the pressing issue of climate change on the world stage.
