Russia's state-owned arms exporter Rosoboronexport is in talks with Indian businesses about producing aircraft weapons jointly for the Indian Air Force, according to a reporter for the Russian state news agency RIA early on Tuesday.

According to RIA, Alexander Mikheyev, General Director of Rosoboronexport, the company is working with Indian public and private enterprises to bring aviation weapons into line and add them to the nation's fleet of existing aircraft.

Regarding the Indian companies involved and the possible start date of production, no information was given.

In 2022, Russia will account for 45% of India's defense imports, making it the country's largest arms supplier, according to a report released this year by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).

According to Mikheyev, the Indian Ministry of Defence has received Su-30MKI fighter jets, tanks, armored vehicles, and shells from Rosoboronexport and Indian partners.
