Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sharad Pawar stated on Sunday that the results of the Assembly elections in four states will not impact the INDIA bloc, a coalition comprising over 25 opposition parties led by the Congress.

As the initial rounds of counting unfolded, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) appeared poised to seize control from the Congress in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh while maintaining its hold in Madhya Pradesh. In Telangana, the Congress led with 65 seats out of 199, while the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), which governed the state for the past decade, was ahead on 39 seats.

"I don't believe this will influence the INDIA alliance. We will convene at the residence of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge in Delhi. We will consult with those familiar with the ground reality. Any comments will be made after the meeting," remarked Pawar.

Acknowledging the prevailing trends favoring the BJP, the NCP chief and prominent Opposition figure emphasized the need to recognize the current political landscape.

Regarding the BRS, led by K Chandrasekhar Rao, trailing behind the Congress in Telangana, Pawar expressed caution, stating it was premature to draw conclusions. He highlighted a shift in expectations after a significant response to Rahul Gandhi's rally, indicating a potential change in the state.

Pawar's NCP is an integral part of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), formed to challenge the ruling BJP in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

The Assembly polls took place in November in Chhattisgarh (7 and 17), Mizoram (7), Madhya Pradesh (17), Rajasthan (25), and Telangana (30).
