President of the NCP
Sharad Pawar has called for a national executive meeting to be held in New
Delhi on Thursday. The meeting is held a day after Maharashtra Deputy Chief
Minister Ajit Pawar stated that he aspired to become the state’s chief minister
and criticised Sharad Pawar for asking his 83-year-old uncle when he would
retire from active politics.

Sharad Pawar stated on Wednesday that he will keep
the NCP’s election symbol, a timepiece, and no one will be able to steal it
from him. This statement was made after dissident NCP leader Ajit Pawar
approached the Election Commission and claimed the party’s name and symbol.

Sources told ABP News
that the rebel NCP faction told the Election Commission that Ajit Pawar, not
Sharad Pawar, was the national head of the party. Ajit Pawar also claimed the
name and sign of the Nationalist Congress Party. He said that more than 35 MLAs
back him.

Here are the highlights:

  • On Wednesday, the two groups each met
with their MLAs in Mumbai. This was a chance to show how strong they were.
  • The leader of the Maharashtra Navnirman
Sena, Raj Thackeray, has made fun of the Nationalist Congress Party and Sharad
Pawar for supporting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). According to the PTI,
Raj Thackeray said that Sharad Pawar knows about all of this because he was in
on the transition from Ajit Pawar to deputy CM in the Shinde ministry.
  • Shiv Sena MLAs were said to be unhappy
after Ajit Pawar of the NCP joined the Maharashtra government, but the party
denied on Wednesday that Chief Minister Eknath Shinde would step down soon.
Chandrashekhar Bawankule, who is the head of the BJP in Maharashtra, said that
Shinde would stay as Chief Minister. Shinde called a meeting of MLAs, and Uday
Samant told reporters afterward that all future polls would be run by Eknath
    Shinde.
  • The senior politician, who has been in
politics for 60 years, didn’t like that a big picture of him was on the stage
at the meeting held by the Ajit Pawar group. He said that those who used his
picture knew they had nothing else to show. Senior Pawar told his followers
that he won’t let anyone take the party symbol from the group led by Ajit
Pawar. This was in response to the group led by Ajit Pawar going to the EC and
    claiming the party symbol.

  • Ajit Pawar sent an appeal to the Election
Commission of India claiming the NCP and its symbol. Jayant Patil also told the
Election Commission that they have started the process in eliminating 9 MLAs
from office. To avoid the anti-defection rule, Ajit Pawar needs the support of
at least 36 MLAs, two-thirds of the assembly’s elected leaders. In the
Maharashtra assembly, the NCP has 53 MLAs.
