On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 17 September, the government of India is going to launch the Vishwakarma Yojna/scheme as 17 September is also celebrated as Vishwakarma Diwas every year. The PM Vishwakarma Yojna will be introduced to benefit small  craftsmen and artisans who make their living by their skilled hands.

On this day, an event is scheduled to take place at the India International Convention and Expo Centre, marking the celebration of Vishwakarma Puja. As the scheme takes center stage, it represents a promising step towards preserving and promoting India's artisanal heritage, while also offering financial support to those who have dedicated their lives to traditional craftsmanship.

This scheme will help the craftsmen and artisans financially by providing loans on minimun interest rates and also provide them training. the aim of the scheme is to preserve the rich culture and tradition, culture and verstile heritage which is carried by the skilled hands of these craftsmen and. This scheme is completely funded by the government of India with the budget of Rs13,000 crores.

Beneficiaries of the scheme will receive a PM Vishwakarma certificate and an ID card, granting them official recognition. They will also have the opportunity to enhance their skills through basic and advanced training programs. Additionally, artisans will benefit from a toolkit incentive of Rs 15,000 and have access to collateral-free credit support of up to Rs 1 lakh for the first tranche and Rs 2 lakh for the second tranche, both offered at a concessional interest rate of 5%. Furthermore, the scheme encourages digital transactions by providing incentives and offers marketing support to promote the artisans' crafts and products.

Craftsmen and artisans from both rural and urban areas across India are eligible to participate in the scheme. To facilitate registration, a user-friendly PM Vishwakarma portal has be established, accessible through Common Service Centers (CSCs), and registration is completely free of charge.

This scheme includes 18 traditional crafts which are (i) Carpenter; (ii) Boat Maker; (iii) Armourer; (iv) Blacksmith ; (v) Hammer and Tool Kit Maker; (vi) Locksmith; (vii) Goldsmith; (viii) Potter; (ix) Sculptor, Stone breaker; (x) Cobbler (Shoesmith/ Footwear artisan); (xi) Mason (Rajmistri); (xii) Basket/Mat/Broom Maker/Coir Weaver; (xiii) Doll & Toy Maker (Traditional); (xiv) Barber; (xv) Garland maker; (xvi) Washerman; (xvii) Tailor; and (xviii) Fishing Net Maker.

This initiative, which was originally announced in this year's Union Budget and highlighted by PM Modi during his Independence Day address, is expected to revitalize traditional crafts and preserve India's rich heritage.
